A Garden of Grasses
Meadows may not be everyone's cup of tea and Ellen Hoffs admits that some "just don't understand." but they are an attractive alternative to a lawn when you are looking to make an open, uncluttered meadowlkie space. Ellen has over 30 kinds of grasses in her Santa Monica meadow,  plus other grasslike plants such as New Zealand flax. The two major meadow-makers, however, are A native sedge named Carex pansa and common creeping red feucue.
Carex pansa grows on one side of a old converyor belt used for a path, while red fescue (the darker green) grows on the other.
