Uncle Billy’s boats and campers
My great uncle was a sheet metal worker with a penchant for folding boats and camper shells, all done well before these became everyday items. The folding boat at left and below were photographed in Lake Helen at Mt. Lassen in August of 1938! The little boat above was one of his later creations that he could carry down to the San Francisco bay and launch by himself. Note the pivot points for the oars at the center of the boat.  All of these boats are made of common sheet metal, right out of his shop.

Here is the little one-man boat shown above in the trunk of his Chevy coupe, which notes say he bought in Los Angeles in 1941. Below, the camper in a 1937 photograph.
